It has been reported by i24 News in English that Mahmoud Abbas has canceled the security coordination with Israel. The head of Israel's Shin Bet Security Agency, Nadav Argaman is said to have met with Abbas to discuss Abbas' threat to end the security agreement. The issue that has caused Abbas to make this stunning but not surprising edict, is Israel's decision to stop the money flow for The Palestinian Authority' Martyrs Fund. Better known as  "Pay for slay" which pays billions of shekels to terrorists' families for heinous acts committed against Israeli citizens, just cannot be continued. The United States agrees.

"In view of Israel's continued denial of the signed agreements and the ensuing obligations, the Palestinian Central Council reaffirms its previous decision considering the transitional phase no longer exists, decides to end the obligations of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority towards its agreements with the occupation authority (Israel), mainly suspending recognition of the State of Israel until its recognition of the State of Palestine on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, the cessation of security coordination in all its forms, and economic disengagement on the grounds that the transitional phase, including the Paris Protocols, no longer exist, and on the basis for identifying practical pillars and steps to continue the process of transition from the stage of Authority to the embodiment of the independence of a sovereign an independent state."
Yesterday, on October 29, 2018 the Palestinian Central Council suspended the recognition of Israel which had been part of the preamble to the Oslo Peace Accords and exchanged in letters between PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

In the following video from April 2018 by Washington Institute for Near East Policy there is a discussion of the study of the evolution of the Palestinian Security Forces. It gives a lot of information as to who they are and what they do. There is a large difference from when Arafat was around. The crucial take away from this video is that their Security Force are not our friends, they are only using it as a means to an end; but without the Palestinian Authority Security force there is going to be chaos.

"The enduring security cooperation between Israel and the PA is remarkable, not only because of their current diplomatic deterioration, but also given the chaos, corruption, and terrorism that marred the PASF's early years. The question is whether the reconstituted and U.S.-supported Palestinian security forces can continue maintaining relative stability in the West Bank amid the many political storms on the horizon."

And now? Is this Abbas playing his last card? The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has voted to to do this but the implementation is still in Abbas' hands. Of course this is being used as a threat to Israel and the United States but could backfire on the PA.

My question is how much more violence will Israel have to endure? How much can we handle? It feels like the walls are closing in, maybe because I am living here now. We have faith in the State of Israel to protect us but nerves are wearing thin in communities close to Gaza and Jerusalem. People are demanding better defense. We don't know, anywhere in Israel, what will happen next.
