The Other Tunnels: Hamas, Egypt and Islamic State in Sinai

The Other Tunnels: Hamas, Egypt and Islamic State in Sinai via AUSTRALIA/ISRAEL REVIEW
In the latest round of fighting between Israel and Hamas overnight which saw more than 170 rockets and mortars fired into Israel, Israeli forces struck around 140 targets in Gaza. Among them were “a factory where the terror groups constructs the concrete blocks it uses for attack tunnels and a fully operational tunnel opening near the Gaza coast belonging to Hamas’ naval commando unit” according to the Times of Israel.
Israel has destroyed a number of such terror tunnels over the last two years, and while the problem is not solved, as Gabrielle Burack reported in the latest Australia/Israel Review edition, new Israeli technological solutions are expected to at least significantly reduce this threat.
Although not in the headlines quite as often as the “terror tunnels” Hamas and associated terrorist groups in the Gaza strip construct into Israel to kill or kidnap soldiers and civilians, the subterranean tunnel economy between Gaza and the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt is just as important and just as dangerous.
According to one Palestinian interviewed by the Guardian, “if there were no tunnels, there would be such a heavy price that it would force Hamas to sit and find a solution” to the blockade. For all the Egyptian and Israeli efforts to destroy them, the tunnel business continues – though there are signs that Egyptian efforts are making a significant dent, albeit at a very high price to local residents.
Israel and Egypt imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip in 2007 after the violent conquest by Hamas, which uncompromisingly advocates violence and the destruction of Israel. Hamas has partially offset this state of affairs by building thousands of tunnels that honeycomb the entirety of Gaza itself and extend hundreds of metres or even kilometres into both Israel and Egypt, forming a “tunnel village” for the transfer of every sort of good, from medicine, clothing, food, and fuel to cars, weapons, livestock, and even people.
These tunnels range in size and sophistication, from small and shallow dirt passages to massive and electrified corridors over sixty feet underground, some large enough to drive a truck through. Although certain tunnels are designated solely for military operations or smuggling certain goods, they are dual use, occasionally running into both Egypt and Israel and allegedly rivalling the Viet Cong’s Chu Chi tunnel network during the Vietnam War.

Caroline Glick: Iran Opens a War Against Israel from Gaza

It was a frightening two days in Israel as Hamas and Islamic Jihad unleashed 400 missiles into southern Israel killing a Palestinian contractor who does business in Israel, injuring dozens and terrifying children and their parents confined to bomb shelters. An amazing turn of events, when suddenly a ceasefire was agreed upon stunned all of Israel. How could Bibi Netanyahu agree to this? As Avigdor Liberman, Minister of Defence and the citizens of southern Israel were infuriated by this seemingly cowardly move by Netanyahu, we also knew there are circumstances beyond those on the surface that have caused Netanyahu to walk back the Israel Defense Forces bombardment of striking the terrorists in Gaza. Caroline Glick explains to us what is actually going on.

A Kornet anti-tank missile hit a civilian bus transporting Israeli soldiers adjacent to Israel’s border with Gaza at 4:30 in the afternoon on Monday.

According to the bus driver, 50 Israeli soldiers had alighted the bus just moments before it was hit by the missile. The missile struck while the bus was moving slowly towards a parking lot. One soldier, who was standing next to the bus, was critically wounded in the blast.
Immediately after the missile strike against the bus, Hamas and its partner, Islamic Jihad, initiated the largest bombardment of Israel they had ever undertaken from Gaza. By late Tuesday morning, the two terror groups had fired more than 400 projectiles into Israel. Fifty Israelis were wounded in the onslaught. One person was killed when a mortar hit an apartment building in Ashkelon. Hundreds of mortars and rockets and missiles were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile batteries. And the government announced it was rushing more Iron Dome batteries to the area.
The flare-up came after a deadly Israeli special forces operation in the Gaza Strip on Sunday that led Hamas to vow revenge
In the hours following the joint Hamas-Islamic Jihad assault, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman (who stepped down Wednesday) ordered the Israel Air Force (IAF) to carry out a large-scale air assault against Hamas command posts and other facilities in the Gaza Strip.
In a media briefing, a senior Air Force commander said the IAF strikes since Monday night have been the most far-reaching raids Israel has ever conducted in Gaza. More than a hundred targets were hit in under two hours, he said.
Israel’s Security Cabinet, which is authorized to order the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to open large-scale operations, including war, convened on Tuesday morning. Its final decision was to walk back the conflict and agree to a ceasefire, with no terms.

Mahmoud Abbas has 'canceled' the security coordination with Israel

It has been reported by i24 News in English that Mahmoud Abbas has canceled the security coordination with Israel. The head of Israel's Shin Bet Security Agency, Nadav Argaman is said to have met with Abbas to discuss Abbas' threat to end the security agreement. The issue that has caused Abbas to make this stunning but not surprising edict, is Israel's decision to stop the money flow for The Palestinian Authority' Martyrs Fund. Better known as  "Pay for slay" which pays billions of shekels to terrorists' families for heinous acts committed against Israeli citizens, just cannot be continued. The United States agrees.

"In view of Israel's continued denial of the signed agreements and the ensuing obligations, the Palestinian Central Council reaffirms its previous decision considering the transitional phase no longer exists, decides to end the obligations of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority towards its agreements with the occupation authority (Israel), mainly suspending recognition of the State of Israel until its recognition of the State of Palestine on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, the cessation of security coordination in all its forms, and economic disengagement on the grounds that the transitional phase, including the Paris Protocols, no longer exist, and on the basis for identifying practical pillars and steps to continue the process of transition from the stage of Authority to the embodiment of the independence of a sovereign an independent state."
Yesterday, on October 29, 2018 the Palestinian Central Council suspended the recognition of Israel which had been part of the preamble to the Oslo Peace Accords and exchanged in letters between PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

In the following video from April 2018 by Washington Institute for Near East Policy there is a discussion of the study of the evolution of the Palestinian Security Forces. It gives a lot of information as to who they are and what they do. There is a large difference from when Arafat was around. The crucial take away from this video is that their Security Force are not our friends, they are only using it as a means to an end; but without the Palestinian Authority Security force there is going to be chaos.

"The enduring security cooperation between Israel and the PA is remarkable, not only because of their current diplomatic deterioration, but also given the chaos, corruption, and terrorism that marred the PASF's early years. The question is whether the reconstituted and U.S.-supported Palestinian security forces can continue maintaining relative stability in the West Bank amid the many political storms on the horizon."

And now? Is this Abbas playing his last card? The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has voted to to do this but the implementation is still in Abbas' hands. Of course this is being used as a threat to Israel and the United States but could backfire on the PA.

My question is how much more violence will Israel have to endure? How much can we handle? It feels like the walls are closing in, maybe because I am living here now. We have faith in the State of Israel to protect us but nerves are wearing thin in communities close to Gaza and Jerusalem. People are demanding better defense. We don't know, anywhere in Israel, what will happen next.

President Trump meets Buhari, Fulani President of Nigeria at the White House #RecognizeBiafra

Blog by Naomi Litvin

The President of  #USA met the Fulani President on the White House lawn on April 30, 2018. I am referring to President Donald Trump and Fulani President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari. As much as I wanted President Trump to say the word 'Biafra,' he did not. Instead he said, "Christians must not be killed in Nigeria."
Biafrans are a patient and intelligent group of people. They understand diplomacy and are grateful that Christians were mentioned. Trump wants great trade deals and yes, on the surface, Nigeria looks like a good customer for America's farm products because of the cows of the Fulani Herdsmen, whose designation as the 4th most deadly terrorist group in the world, refuse to keep their cattle on ranches, and prefer to decimate farm land, killing and raping the families on farms, leaving horror in their wake. Therefore, there is not enough home grown food for the people in the country of Nigeria, which is described in a gross inaccuracy as a Democracy.  Their ethnic cleansing clears the way for increased Islamization of Nigeria, their modus operandi since the 16th century. Instead of proscribing Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria as terrorist, Buhari has designated #IPOB, the non-violent, unarmed Indigenous People of Biafra as terrorist.

"Militants “descend on the villages in the night or in the day and carry out cruel attacks against innocent people, including women and children,” according to an assessment of Nigeria by Open Doors, a charity that provides aid to Christians who live under pressure because of their faith. “There are moves by the governments of Benue, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Taraba States to establish and reserve grazing fields for Hausa-Fulani Muslim herdsmen. This means that swathes of land from indigenous Christian communities are taken away for that purpose, depriving Christians of their farming fields and livelihood.” " via World Wide Watch Monitor.
Said Arne Mulders, Open Doors’ West Africa research expert:
“These herders have historically played a role in jihad, and they have grown increasingly radical in recent times due to the influx of radical Islamist preaching by missionaries from Saudi Arabia and Iran. The radicalization in the Fulani has also kept pace with the Boko Haram radicalization. The Fulanis’ actions are also shaped by concept of Darul Islam, where everything belongs to Allah directly and to his followers indirectly–including the land where they want to let their cattle craze. They believe it is right for them to take those resources by force from infidels and apostates.”

Perhaps that is too much to ask, that anyone, even President Trump can comprehend the diversity of Biafrans. There are 25 tribes in Biafra with their own provinces. I've been onboard advocating for Biafra for over two years, learning new facts about Biafra, each new day,  Nnamdi Kanu, the missing leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. Nnamdi Kanu is a Jew.

Gonzo Journalism: Currently working on The Biafra Faktor, sequel to The Masada Faktor

I'm currently working on The Biafra Faktor. It's a sequel to The Masada Faktor which is a fictional noir featuring Natasha Bernard as protagonist. Loosely based on my own life,  I thought of using Natasha Bernard as my nom de plume but instead, cast her in a Gonzo journalism approach.

Natasha's adventures in Israel in 2014, after immigration to the Holy Land are adventurous, Gaza
harrowing, and sexy as she attempts to solve the mystery of The Masada Faktor, imparted to her by her mother, at her deathbed. In Israel, with Operation Protective Edge, the
War raging, Natasha realizes the significance of the mystery linked to current events. Why The Biafra Faktor? My involvement and advocacy with the Indigenous People of Biafra has led me to an intense two year study of the situation in West African Biafra Land since the Civil War in the late Sixties. When their attempt to separate and actualize their own country from the British amalgamated country of Nigeria it ended in the genocidal starvation of 3.5 million men, women, and children (estimates of the dead vary and may be as high as six million.) Now, after their leader Nnamdi Kanu and his parents were taken by the Nigerian Army in September of 2017, and since being proscribed as a terrorist group by Nigeria, they are being hunted and butchered by the Islamic regime. Biafrans are committed to a non-violent struggle and, in my opinion, not exercising self-defense. It is only a matter of time before enough will be enough and they may be forced to fight back.

And so, in my new book, as Natasha Bernard struggles to return to Israel after a sojourn in the United States, she becomes involved with the Biafran people. Whether a manifestation of her childhood trauma as a Child of the Holocaust (Natasha's mother mirrors my mother, a Holocaust survivor from Hungary) or simply an empathic response to these highly intelligent and educated people, Natasha becomes embroiled in a conspiracy that spans the globe.

Stay tuned to the further adventures of Natasha Bernard, my alter ego. Is truth stranger than fiction? Or is fiction stranger than truth? When the time comes, I'll let you decide.

The compelling subject of unconditional basic income

I entered a contest and didn't win. The subject of the contest, unconditional basic income, was compelling and I wanted to challenge myself to write something different on demand.  The Economic Security Project, who organized the contest, is exploring the debate and experiments of "Basic Income," as they describe below.
"The Economic Security Project is a network committed to advancing the debate on unconditional cash and basic income in the United States. In a time of immense wealth, no one should live in poverty, nor should the middle class be consigned to a future of permanent stagnation or anxiety. Automation, globalization, and financialization are changing the nature of work, and these shifts require us to rethink how to create economic opportunity for all.
Now is the time to think seriously about how expanding unconditional cash could work, how to pay for it, and what the political path might be to make it a reality. Join us."
A lot has been written on the unconditional basic income that has been implemented in Finland recently. The idea has been tossed around for a long time and is especially pleasing to the Left.

In my short story I addressed both sides of the issue in a fictional story.

Two people have claimed to me that Nnamdi Kanu is alive! #WhereIsNnamdiKanu

I've been sitting on this information for a while. Two people have claimed to me that Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu is alive. The first person that told me Nnamdi Kanu is alive said it to me on the telephone the day after the horrifying attack on the Kanu Palace in Umuahia on September 14, 2017. I did not disclose to anyone what she said, as at the time I wasn't sure of her veracity. Initially I believed she worked with IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra). Later it was revealed that she is part of a dangerous, violent vigilante group that's working contrary to the non-violent doctrine of IPOB. What Michele Fishman said to me was this: Nnamdi Kanu is alive: He escaped through Cameroon with the help of people from that country who are sympathetic to Biafra's cause. She may deny this and say I am a liar, she may say that I am an agent of Nigeria, but believe me, she is up to no good.

After some time and events (look at her Latest Updates here) I was prompted to report her to the FBI, and her claims on twitter of mass murder and arson as spokesperson of the group. Later, after a second person, who was new to me contacted me on Facebook, I have decided to divulge these two incredible statements.

I don't believe either of these people, yet I think their audacious statements are troubling and opportunistic. So please, take all of this under consideration and know that it is hearsay, anecdotal, or just plain lies.
