Diary of a Madman

Posted

Life imitates art, especially on twitter -- @nlitvin

Diary of a Madman is a 1963 horror film directed by Reginald Le Borg and starring Vincent Price, Nancy Kovack, and Chris Warfield. The screenplay, written by producer Robert E. Kent, is an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's short story "Le Horla" ("The Horla"), written in 1887. Kent's rendition is notably divergent from the source material, especially in relation to the religious and moral themes of the film, which contradict not only those of the short story, but Maupassant's as well. Additionally, Kent borrowed the title of the film from a different story authored by Nikolai Gogol entitled "Diary of a Madman."

President Obama: the real reason why you should free Jonathan Pollard

Posted

If President Obama were to ask me why he should free Jonathan Pollard I would tell him that according to Jewish Law there is the concept of Pidyon Shvuyim which means it is a great mitzvah to free a captive, as captivity is viewed as even worse than starvation and death.

Maimonides, the Jewish philosopher  wrote: “The redeeming of captives takes precedence over supporting the poor or clothing them. There is no greater mitzvah than redeeming captives for the problems of the captive include being hungry, thirsty, unclothed, and they are in danger of their lives too. Ignoring the need to redeem captives goes against these Torah laws: “Do not harden your heart or shut your hand against your needy fellow” -“Do not stand idly by while your neighbor’s blood shed.”
The Shulchan Aruch adds: “Every moment that one delays in freeing captives, in cases where it is possible to expedite their freedom, is considered to be tantamount to murder.”

In celebration of 4th of July I am giving away my book on kindle for two days: July 4 and July 5!  You don't need to have a Kindle, you can download the free application for any computer or device from clicking on Amazon.
Then go to my page and click on Kindle edition!

Five members of my family tell their first person stories of survival and love. Thank you for honoring them by reading their stories and keeping their memories alive. Out of the five, only my Aunt Hilda still lives. Some people that have reviewed my book did not appreciate the style that I utilized to tell these historical, true accounts according to their own point of views. I could not fictionalize such important documentary, I had to let them tell the stories in their own words. Please, be my guest and download a free copy of my kindle version, which was recently revised to improve reading on an electronic device, and judge for yourself.
Sir Martin Gilbert, official biographer of Winston Churchill and author of eighty-eight books, read my manuscript, urged me to publish, lent maps for illustration, and wrote the forward.
