Maimonides, the Jewish philosopher  wrote: “The redeeming of captives takes precedence over supporting the poor or clothing them. There is no greater mitzvah than redeeming captives for the problems of the captive include being hungry, thirsty, unclothed, and they are in danger of their lives too. Ignoring the need to redeem captives goes against these Torah laws: “Do not harden your heart or shut your hand against your needy fellow” -“Do not stand idly by while your neighbor’s blood shed.”

Five members of my family tell their first person stories of survival and love. Thank you for honoring them by reading their stories and keeping their memories alive. Out of the five, only my Aunt Hilda still lives. Some people that have reviewed my book did not appreciate the style that I utilized to tell these historical, true accounts according to their own point of views. I could not fictionalize such important documentary, I had to let them tell the stories in their own words.
